The easiest way to travel around Bilbao using public transport is by purchasing a Barik card, on sale for € 3 at metro vending machines, which you can top up with credit (from € 5) and use on the metro, tram and bus lines. One card can be used for multiple people, and the card pays for itself after five uses. Single tickets can also be purchased from metro machines.
Another good solution for travelling around the city and the rest of the province is the Bilbao Bizkaia Card which also gives you access to a wide range of discounts. Once you have activated your Bilbao Bizkaia Card on any transport network, you can travel free-of-charge for 24, 48 or 72 hours, depending on the type of card you buy. You can purchase them at the Tourist Offices or buy them online.
All taxis are metered and rates rise after dark. Expect to pay around € 10 to cross central Bilbao. A taxi costs approximately € 24-29 from/to the airport.
Taxis from the Femade Auto Taxis Association operate at Bilbao airport, with 64 vehicles in the arrivals area every day.
You can book a taxi by telephone (+34 944 800 909) or by filling in the booking form on their website.
